VIJAYAWADA: Four of a family sustained injuries when one of their relatives attacked them with a knife at their house at Kandirka late on Friday. The condition of the family head, Md. Hussain, 55, is said to be critical. The Payakapuram police arrested the accused Afsar Ali, 28, and opened a history-sheet against him on Saturday.

According to the police, Md. Hussain, a tailor, left for Dubai long back to eke out a livelihood.

Recently, he returned to the city and fixed an alliance to his daughter Rameedunnisa. Hussain and his family members were making arrangements for the wedding. Late on Friday,

Hussiain’s nephew Afsar Ali visited their house and suddenly attacked Hussain with a knife. Hussain’s wife Rehmatunnisa and sons Ameer Ali and Azgar Ali went to his rescue and sustained injuries. Afsar Ali fled from the area.

As Rameedunnisa raised an alarm, neighbours rushed the injured to a private hospital.

The police said Afsar Ali, a mechanic, wanted to marry Rameedunnisa and he was unable to digest the fact that the girl was being married to someone else.
