KHAMMAM: Four members of a two-wheeler lifter gang were nabbed in the town and 14 motorcycles and ornaments – all worth Rs 6 lakhs — were seized from different places on Sunday.
A home guard, Sheik Chandpasha of Khammam unit, suspected to be the gang master was among the arrested, according to sub divisional police officer Rameshaiah and town inspector Sarveswar Rao.
They told media persons that Chandpasha and his accomplices Padira Nagasai Bharat alias Nani Nagamalleswar Rao and Kancharla Anilkumar lifted some 11 motor cycles in different localities in Guntur town.
They also lifted four motorcycles in Khammam town and one in L.B. Nagar area in Hydearbad. They were in the practice of borrowing money ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 by pledging the vehicles.
Two of the accused who stayed at one of their relatives’ house in VDOs colony in the town made off with some gold ornaments quite some time ago. Some of the motorcycles were traced in Mudigonda village and other places in the vicinity of the town.
A 23-year-old woman, second wife of Chandpasha, identified as a resident of Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada was also taken into custody for questioning in connection with the seizure. Further investigation is on.
