With a move to empower women, especially those belonging to the lower economic strata, a women’s wing of the Christian Social Forum was inaugurated here on Saturday.

Recognising the significant presence of educated women among the minority community in the city, a meeting was held at the YMCA to launch a wing under the Christian Social Forum, a State-wide apex body with all Christian heads as members. The initiative to float the women’s wing was taken by member, Prime Minister’s 15-Point Programme for Minorities, Vijaya Chittaranjan, general secretary of the CSF Devapriyam Pulla, and consultant psychologist Leonora Mohan. Some of the leaders of the community came together to discuss ways of improving the lot of women belonging lower socio-economic background, Leonora Mohan said. The Forum plans to have some standing committees to deal with the problems .
