HYDERABAD: Former member of Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Padmaja Naramalli on Sunday denied that eight-year-old Nagamani was employed as child labourer at her house and alleged that her political detractors were behind the “false complaint” lodged with the Labour Department. Nagamani was “rescued” by the department officials on Friday.

In a statement, she claimed that Nagamani and her mother Ratnamma, a native of Kurnool district, were poor and stayed with her for the former’s studies. But Ratnamma used to help her and relatives whenever there were functions.

Ms. Padmaja said after she explained the situation and submitted an affidavit, the Labour Department officials handed over Nagamani to her.
