Officials of the Forest Department officials allegedly demolished several newly erected huts at a temporary settlement of the migrant Gutti Koya tribals near Mondikunta village in Ashwapuram mandal on Wednesday.

Sources said that the forest officials accompanied by the local police had carried out the demolition drive throughout the day. Initially, a section of the migrant tribals had tried to put up some resistance. However, the police had intervened and made them remove the huts on their own. The tribals displaced by the demolition drive took shelter under the trees with their belongings.

When contacted, Ashwapuram SI Samba Raju said that the drive was jointly conducted by the police and forest department personnel to remove the huts illegally erected by some new entrants at the Gutti koyas temporary settlement situated under the Nellipaka reserve forest area.
