The Hindu and VMC join hands

VIJAYAWADA: Doing its bit for the protection of environment on the occasion of World Environment Day, The Hindu, in association with the Element School of Visual Arts, planted a few saplings on the sprawling premises of P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Science early on Friday. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) kicked off its official programmes organised on the occasion of World Environment Day by joining hands with The Hindu.

Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu, Municipal Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna, District Forest Officer (social forestry) Y. Chalapati Rao, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences of Acharya Nagarjuna University A.V.V.S. Swamy, director of Element School of Visual Arts P. Mahesh, P.B. Siddhartha College (degree) principal N. Satyanarayana, junior college principal G. Srirammurthy, local corporator S.P. Gritton and others were present.

Lauding the initiative taken by The Hindu to spread the message of the need to protect the environment, Ms. Ratna Bindu felt that less use of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials was the need of the hour.
