Children showcased their talents in both folk and western dance forms with remarkable aptitude leaving the audience spellbound at the Kala Tarang, the two-day dance competition, which concluded in Kothagudem on Friday. The dance event was organised under the aegis of the communication wing of the State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). It attracted a large number of children from different parts of the coal belt on the concluding day. The children, representing a team from Kothagudem region, captivated the audience with their electrifying dance performance in folk dance category held in the morning. They danced to the pulsating drum beats accompanied by a folk song in praise of goddess Maisamma. The participants highlighted the vibrant cultural heritage of the region by performing different folk dances on themes including patriotism and Singareni’s contribution to national economy. Students from the Singareni high school hogged the limelight with their impressive performances in both the solo and group dance competitions. The auditorium of the Singareni Women’s Degree College, the venue of the dance competitions, witnessed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day on Friday. The Singareni higher officials gave away the prizes to the winners of the dance competitions at the closing ceremony held late in the evening.
