Unorganised labourers will be facilitated to strike proper agreement with contractors
ADILABAD: The Adilabad district administration is set to take certain measures to avoid incidents like the burying alive of 12 migrant labourers working at the Rallivagu project site on May 23.
A meeting of irrigation officials and engineers, contractors and Singareni officials connected with safety of miners will be convened shortly at the district headquarters to work out ways and means to implement various laws related to welfare of labourers and additional measures to be taken for safety of those employed on hazardous jobs.
In-charge Collector Vijay Kumar told The Hindu that enumeration of migrant labourers will be undertaken soon in the district. Unorganised labourers will be facilitated to strike proper agreement with contractors which will take care of life insurance of the labourers, he said.
The Singareni safety officials will be invited to the meeting for their suggestions regarding safety measures that can be inducted whenever labourers are on a hazardous job.
“After discussion at the meeting with irrigation officials and others concerned like the Singareni safety officials, we will formulate certain terms for agreement on safety of labourers. The contractors will be insisted to sign this MoU meant for the safety of labourers,” Mr. Vijay Kumar said.
Meanwhile, notices have been issued to the contracting firm at the Rallivagu project by the Labour Department with regard to Sunday’s incident.
