Thieves took away gold jewellery and silver articles, all worth Rs. 3 lakh, after breaking into a flat at Rajeevnagar in S.R. Nagar police station limits on Wednesday night. Apartment owner V. Premanand, a businessman, went out along with his family around 5 p.m. On return, the main door lock of the flat was found broken and property along with cash of Rs. 12,000 was stolen from the almirah.

Man hacks wife to death

A building watchman Venkat Rao allegedly axed his wife Kumari, 28, to death in their house at Madhapur suspecting her of infidelity, on Wednesday night. Rao fled the spot and, on Thursday morning, rang up his friend living stating that he had murdered his wife. Hailing from Ongole, Rao was working at Jubilee Enclave.

The couple have a son whom they had sent to their village in Ongole.

The watchman suspected that his wife had developed intimacy with a labourer Raji Reddy. A hunt is on for the watchman.

Businessman killed

A businessman, Ashok Kumar, 48, was beaten to death allegedly by three drunken youngsters near Anandnagar colony in Malakpet in the early hours of Thursday.

Police registered a murder case against the accused, Srinivas, Gajender and Sai, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s grandson Rajesh and launched a hunt for them.

According to Rajesh, the accused stopped him while he was walking to a medical shop near his house to buy medicines at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The three youth, who were reportedly in an inebriated condition, asked him to bring cigarettes for them. When Rajesh refused, the trio attacked him,” the Malakpet ACP Suhas Chaturvedi said. Rajesh, somehow, managed to escape, went back home and told his grandfather about the assault.
