Nirmal Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) K. Ajesh Kumar on Friday granted police five-day custody of MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in the hate speech case.
Allowing the petition filed by Nirmal police, the Magistrate granted the custody from January 12 and asked the police to produce him in the court on January 17.
Arguing in the court for 35 minutes for the Nirmal police, Additional Public Prosecutor A. Ram Reddy said, the police custody of Mr. Owaisi in the hate speech case was needed to investigate into the conspiracy angle.
He said a major portion of the now controversial speech comprised objectionable contents which had given rise to the suspicion that the accused had conspired to violate the law.
Mr. Ajesh Kumar heard the argument of V. Balraj, advocate for the MLA, before reserving the order for afternoon. Though the police sought seven-day police custody to the MLA, he granted custody only five days.
The JFCM adjourned to January 16 a petition dealing with grant of special category under trial prisoner status to Mr. Owaisi.
He will also deal with the petitions seeking voice sample of the MLA and signature samples of accused number 2, Azeem-bin-Yahiya on the same date.
Bail plea filed
Meanwhile, Azeem-bin-Yahiya, who is lodged in the Nirmal sub-jail, filed a bail petition in the Sessions Court, Adilabad. It will be taken up for consideration after the brief vacation of the Court for Sankranti festival.
