Accused confess to having planned to extort money from the business community
KARIMNAGAR: The Peddapalli police arrested five persons, including a former Maoist naxalite, and recovered two 8 mm short weapons from their possession on Saturday.
Peddapalli Sub-Inspector P. Prashanth Reddy said that the police had launched vehicle checking on credible information, intercepted the accused and recovered the weapons from them.
The accused confessed to having planned to extort money from the business community in Peddapalli by showing their weapons and posing themselves as naxalites.
The arrested included M. Kumaraswamy alias Kiran (37), a former Maoist naxalite. He carried a short weapon while moving with the dalam and did not hand over the weapon during his surrender before the police.
I Chandraiaha (45), who was working in Mumbai as a car driver, carried a short weapon.
The other three included M. Naveen Kumar (32), K. Venkat Rajam (40) and P. Sriramulu (50).
