Kakinada: Six fishermen and a police constable were injured in a clash at Uppada village in U. Kotthapalli mandal on Wednesday. Some fishermen who went fishing in spite of the prevailing seasonal ban, were questioned why they did so. A verbal duel ensued and it led to stone pelting as tempers ran high.

Superintendent of Police G. Sreenivas told The Hindu that the village elders have resolved that fishermen should stay away from the sea due to the ban but some of them refused to heed the advice. When they returned from fishing, they were admonished for violating the ban. This caused a war of words resulting in a physical attack.

Police personnel were rushed to the scene and the situation was monitored by SP (Administration) S.J. Janardhan. Six fishermen were taken into custody and a police picket was posted there.
