As many as 50 persons involved in various incidents in connection with the communal violence in the town, including two persons who assaulted an auto driver leading to violent incidents on December 10, were arrested on Thursday. They were sent to judicial remand.
According to Nalgonda DSP Vijayakumar, the arrested persons, included 19 youngsters, were allegedly involved in the attack on IGP Rajiv Rattan near Yellareddyguda. He had sustained minor injuries and his vehicle was damaged in the incident.
The situation in the district, which observed a bandh on Wednesday, was peaceful. The ban orders imposed on Monday have been extended till Friday. Sufficient force is being deployed keeping in view the Friday prayers.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Nizamabad legislator E. Lakshminarayana during the day, when he tried to enter communal sensitive Old Town area. He had called on State party vice-president Chinta Sambamurthy at the government hospital here. The BJP leader was injured when the police forcibly removed the party’s ‘deeksha’ camp near Clock Tower on Tuesday.
