VISAKHAPATNAM: Convener of Forum for Better Visakha and retired IAS officer E.A.S. Sarma on Tuesday said education should have a definite purpose to spread values and morality.
Speaking at an Open House on value oriented education on the occasion of National Education Day here, he said education without morality and discipline had no value at all. The meeting was conducted jointly by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Power, an NGO to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister in the Union Cabinet. Mr. Sarma said the Maulana piloted the education policy and advised the youngsters to emulate him.
Swamy Guneshananda of Ramakrishna Mission the real purpose of education was to manifest perfection. “Everyone has leadership ability. What one needs is to realise the hidden talent and explore to realise one’s full potential,” he said and advised students to study well and spare their free time for social service.
Field Publicity Officer V. Vijaya Kumar, who presided, said education should not be confined to classrooms alone and felt that it should be a continuous process.

Rich tributes were paid to the Moulana on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary at an Education Day meeting conducted by the faculty and students of VMC Mahila Vidya Peeth Degree College, MVP Colony. Nalini Kumari, Principal, who presided stated that Abul Kalam Azad was a great leader and the most prominent Muslim who had opposed the demand for separation. He as the Education Minister was responsible for the establishment of University grants Commission and introducing National education System with free primary education. Dr. M. Madan Mohan, Assistant Professor, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education spoke. The students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Thatichetlapalem took part in Education Day celebrations on Tuesday. Former professor of AUCE S.V.J. Swamy, principal R. Vijayalakshmi, Vice-Principal Muninder Singh spoke.
