VISAKHAPATNAM: The 16 students of Andhra University, who are on an indefinite fast demanding a unified Andhra Pradesh and shifted to King George Hospital by the police, climbed the terrace of the hospital building on Wednesday and threatened to jump from there if their demand was not met.

They were convinced by the Congress leaders, doctors and police and were brought back to the hospital rooms. Eleven of them are on fast for the last six days and were shifted to the KGH on Monday night. Five others who filled-in for them were shifted on Wednesday morning.

Police removed the five students around 8.20 a.m. and sent them to KGH.

When woman police constables were made to sit on the chairs of the fasting students to prevent other students to take their place, the students protested and the constables had to be withdrawn. Praja Rajyam MLA of Gajuwaka Ch. Venkataramaiah along with his party workers and some trade union leaders and workers blocked the main gate of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant for about one-and-a-half hours in the morning.
