Upset over the frequent fasts undertaken by legislators of the TDP, BJP and the now the YSR Congress on the premises of MLA Quarters, ruling party MLA G. Veerashiva Reddy has demanded their removal from the spot and tough security measures.

The Kamalapuram MLA’s immediate grouse appeared to be the indefinite fast launched by YSR Congress honorary president Y.S.Vijayamma and 30 other party legislators at the New MLA Quarters from Tuesday.

Inconvenience to families

He alleged that the fast was causing inconvenience to the legislators and their families as a large number of party workers were being mobilised and brought there everyday.

In a petition to the Assembly Speaker, he said police were unable to recognise the people visiting the camp as some of them could be trouble makers.

He also cited the recent bomb blasts in the twin cities and feared that unless proper security was arranged there could be trouble. He was upset that the high decibel sound system was causing hardships to students.

However, the Legislature Secretariat has expressed its helplessness in tackling the problem.

Sources said that the political parties and their legislators were holding indefinite fasts without permission. It was pointed out that the police were reluctant to act against them as they were the law-makers.

It was also becoming difficult for the police to control the crowds thronging the venue as it could invite trouble from the political parties. All that the Legislature Secretariat did was to ask the police to step up vigil and restrict the entry of visitors to the fasting camp.
