With a view to helping the farmers of Prakasam district who are reeling under unprecedented drought, the public sector Vijaya Bank distributed dairy units costing Rs. 1 lakh each to 503 farmer members of the Prakasam District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union here on Thursday.
Expressing happiness over the farmers coming forward to make use of the NABARD's subsidised dairy unit scheme, Vijaya Bank Executive Director Subbalakshmi Panse said the bank was ready to provide loans for more dairy farmers in the next fiscal.
The bank so far provided advances of Rs. 11.77 crore to 1,177 farmers this year for setting up dairy units in the district, she said.
