NELLORE: Municipal Administration Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy has appealed to Podupu Lakshmi Group women to repay loans promptly which will enable the government give fresh loans to the beneficiaries.
Speaking at an awareness meeting for Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) urban groups here on Monday, the Minister said the percentage of recovery on ‘Paavala Vaddi Scheme’ came down to 80 per cent, which was 99 per cent in the State earlier.
Nellore district stood in fourth in recoveries in the State, he said and appealed to IKP group women to bring the district to the top position in recoveries.
About 22 lakh women were there in 2 lakh groups in the State and the government had set a target to disburse loans amounting to Rs.1, 200 crore this year. The Minister distributed loans amounting to Rs. 12.30 crore to 1,353 urban group members, 829 slum groups, physically-challenged and SHG group women in the district.
Mayor N. Bhanusri presided over the programme.
There was a heavy stampede at the Venkatagiri Raja’s College grounds when women rushed towards the counters to collect food packets after the meeting. The officials ordered for 6,000 food packets in eight counters while the attendance for the programme was above 10,000 women.
