Rs. 23 lakh worth valuables recovered in Prakasam
Police have recovered gold jewellery and mobile phones worth Rs. 23 lakhs with the arrest of five offenders in connection with three cases in different parts of Prakasam district.
The arrested included a ‘fake baba’ T.Raju (29), and his aide Papamma (35) at Pamuru in Kandukur division and 35-year-old P.Kanna who was involved in seven house-breaks and four chain snatching incidents on the outskirts of Ongole, Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy told a press conference here on Saturday.
Explaining the modus operandi of the fake baba, Dr.Reddy said on the first day the woman used to visit houses in a colony and identify gullible women after they pour out their financial woes. On the next day, the fake baba used to visit the selected houses and win their confidence giving their family particulars much to their astonishment, to perform “Swarna Pooja” mixed with rice in a stainless steel box as a remedy for all their ills. When the gullible women close their eyes and offer prayers, the fake baba used to put in its place another identical stainless steel box without gold ornaments and ask them to open it only after a day for positive results. Gold ornaments worth Rs. 4.60 lakhs were recovered from the duo who had also struck in Nandyal in neighbouring Kurnool district.
Ongole taluka police recovered gold oranments worth Rs. 12 lakhs with the arrest of Kanna from Bitragunta in neighbouring Nellore district involved in 11 offences in Prakasam district, he said.
In the third incident, 25 mobile phones with high-end applications were recovered on Friday from two offenders, M. Karimulla (23) and Sd.Subhani (23) who had broke open a mobile shop in Parchur last year in Chirala division, he added.
