Fake currency racket busted

A fake currency racket was busted and fake notes, of the face value of Rs.13.74 lakh, were seized and 10 persons were arrested by the district police.

Giving details to the media here on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said that P.C. Venkata Subbaraju, (32), of Khandavilli village in West Godavari district, was arrested at the Anakapalle railway station on Saturday morning and fake currency notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000, of the face value of Rs.6 lakh, were seized from his possession. He said that the arrest was made based on the confession of an accused Dwarampudi Venkatareddy, who was arrested on September 17 along with Rs.4.95 lakh fake currency in Anakapalle town.

Mr. Duggal said that based on Subbaraju’s confession, nine other accused were arrested at a lodge in Anakapalle and fake currency of the face value of Rs.7.74 lakh was seized from them. The nine accused were: K. Veerraju (40) of Tanuku town, A. Srinivasa Raju (40) of Hyderabad, K.V. Satyanarayana Raju (52) of Chidiga village, P. Ramesh (37) of Antarwedipalem village, K. Anjaneyulu (30) of Tekisettipalem village, O. Srinivasa Rao (33) of Gondi village and Ch. Chinni (37) of Avidi village, K. Sankara Rao (30) of Tantikonda village (all in East Godavari district) and G. Harish (28) of Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam city.

One more accused A. Ravindra of Tanuku town absconded. The SP said that efforts were being made to apprehend him, as also some other persons who were involved in the racket. The fake currency is being circulated from Kolkata in West Bengal.
