Mekala Kumara Swamy cheated many at ATMs and withdrew huge amounts from their accounts

WARANGAL: The district police nabbed a cheat who targeted the ATM centres making the senior citizens and gullible public his prey. The police arrested Mekala Kumara Swamy of Dupakunta village of Geesukonda mandal who is former Sarpanch of the village. According to SP , V.C. Sajjanar, the accused had been committing offences since 2004.


He stole six motor cycles in Warangal town and committed offences at ATM centres. The police recovered five ATM cards and Rs 1.6 lakh cash from the accused.

“In June last year, he committed theft of ATM card pertaining to a retired school teacher at ATM centre near Nayeemnagar SBI Branch by diverting his attention and exchanged the ATM card and drew an amout of Rs 1.5 lakh. He committed such crimes five times and drew huge sums from his victim’s accounts ,” Mr Sajjanar explained.


The accused was apprehended by the CCS police personnel P. Shobhana Chalam, K. Someswar Rao and their team members while conducting vehicle checking on Wednesday near NIT, Kazipet. The police also recovered all the six motor cycles. The SP said he was habituated to lavish spending and resorted to thefts. He was sent to judicial custody.

Mr. Sajjanar advised the senior citizens and persons with vision problems to be extra cautious at the ATM centres and call 1090 for police assistance in case of emergency. He wanted the bankers to display telephone numbers of bank officials at ATM centres to contact in emergency.
