Various organisations under the banner of Sahaja Vanarula Parirakshana Porata Samiti (struggle committee for protection of natural resources in the district) have raised a banner of revolt against the exploitation of natural resources of granite, sand, coal, and river waters in Karimnagar town on Saturday.
Denouncing the exploitation of natural resources such as granite, sand and coal, the organisations took out a massive procession from Ambedkar statue to the Collectorate and staged a dharna. Balladeer Vimalakka, MLC Dileep Kumar, local leaders K. Venugopal, Lingaiah and others also participated.
They said that granite quarry operations were destructing the ecology and the groundwater table in the district. Besides, the natural flora and fauna on the hillocks were becoming extinct. They demanded that the government abolish the licences of all granite and sand quarry operations in the district.
