HYDERABAD: Hydrological experts have called for efficient and sustainable use of groundwater by ensuring replenishment of aquifers which are getting increasingly depleted due to overexploitation.

The experts, who are in the city to attend the ongoing 8th International Association of Hydrological Sciences and 37th Congress of the International Association of Hydro-geologists, have warned that water resources management would be a major problem in the wake of “population concentration” in cities in India and many other countries.

At a press conference Gordon Young, president IAHS said that not only population growth but population concentration in cities would be a “real challenge” for humanity and city managers.

Recharging the aquifers in a good measure needed to be done to improve sustainability of groundwater.
