Addiction to junk foods such as burgers, pizzas, choco bars, fries, and so on is the major reason for increasing problem of obesity among adults as well as children these days. There is a wrong notion that children may look obese now, but they grow up to be smart and healthy over the years, and parents should take every care in this regard.
Offering such tips to health enthusiasts, noted surgical gastroenterologist and laparoscopic surgeon G. Ramesh said the best way to fight obesity was to adopt lifestyle modifications with all sincerity. Dietary regulations and exercise would occupy a prime place in this. Treatment with medicines was needed only in case of serious and morbid cases of obesity.
Describing sedentary lifestyle as a major culprit, Dr. Ramesh said women were prone to this problem and every one woman out of five was suffering on account of this. Children were also vulnerable in this respect, as today's schools were confining them to classroom activities for too many hours.
Dr. Ramesh, along with a panel of doctors, is organising an awareness drive on obesity at ANU Hospitals at Chalasani Venkata Krishnaiah Street near Pushpa Hotel in Suryaraopet on Saturday at 11 a.m.
