Ex-MLA Vizarat passes away

Former legislator and chairman, Shahdan group of educational institutions, Mohd Vizarat Rasool Khan, passed away here on Monday afternoon after a prolonged illness. The end came at the Apollo Hospital where he was readmitted 22 days ago following complaint of lung infection and pneumonia. He was 66.

‘Dr. Saheb,’ as he was popularly called, is survived by wife Shahdan Tahniyat, four sons and four daughters. He was the elder brother of Majlis MLA Virasat Rasool Khan. Dr. Vizarat was first admitted to the Apollo Hospital in May for two months. He did not recover fully and continued to be ill after being discharged. He was hospitalised again when his condition deteriorated.

He was a two-time MLA from the Asifnagar constituency – in 1984 and 1985. Both times he was elected on the Majlis ticket. In 1994 also he contested the election on the MBT ticket but lost to Congress candidate D. Nagender.

Though he dabbled in politics, Vizarat is known more as an educationist. He had set up a string of 56 minority institutions, including18 engineering, 5 pharmacy and 2 medical colleges. The first B.Ed college in the Shahdan group was established in April 1988 and first engineering college in 1995.
