TIRUPATI: The Tirupati-based Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax Commissionerate covering the four districts of Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur in Rayalaseema netted a record revenue of Rs.744.20 crore for the fiscal 2007-08 against last year’s 642.83 crore.

Superintendent of the Commissionerate K. Vijaya Kumar has, in a release said that it was mainly commodities like cement, iron and steel and batteries which made the Commissionerate mop up a record Central excise revenue.

Of the overall revenue collection of Rs. Rs.744.2 crore for the current year, the Central excise collection alone accounted for Rs.667 crore followed by Service Tax revenue of Rs.73 crore and Customs collection Rs.4.2 crore.

He pointed out that while the Central excise revenue registered an increase of 14 per cent over that of last year. Customs logged more than a four-fold increase .
