Police accused of 'illegally' detaining Excise Sub-Inspector

WARANGAL: Andhra Pradesh Prohibition and Excise Executive Officers Association, Warangal district unit, alleged that the Mulugu police have illegally detained excise sub-inspector S. Surender, on Thursday night.

According to the association district president, Shankaraiah, the Mulugu probationary sub-inspector during the night patrolling went to a dhaba and nabbed about 10 persons, who were allegedly consuming liquor.

Case registered

Later, the police sub-inspector informed the matter to the Mulugu ASP, Rajesh Kumar, who in turn instructed the probationary sub-inspector to locate the Excise Sub-Inspector, who should invoke 'dry day' rule on the Republic Day.

The Mulugu probationary sub-inspector went to the house of the excise sub-inspector and forcibly took him to the police station, even as his wife resisted.

The police registered cases of consuming liquor and assaulting a duty police officer against the Excise Sub-Inspector.

Pen-down strike

Mr. Shankaraiah said that the Excise Sub-Inspector was an elderly person, suffering with diabetics.

Demanding the police to withdraw the cases immediately, the association leader threatened to launch agitational programmes beginning with a pen-down strike.
