Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the key for the industries to keep a healthy relationship with the society. Depending on their budgets and possible allocations, majority of the industries take up the job on a regular basis with some intervals.

This busy town bordering Karnataka has been housing one of the largest manufacturing units of four-wheeler giant Mahindra and Mahindra.

School, hostel adopted

Under the Corporate Social Responsibility programme named Employee Social Options (ESOPs), the Mahindra and Mahindra company has initiated works in three sectors – education, health and environment- by adopting Zilla Parishad School at Buchinelly and SC Government Hostel at Zaheerabad.

The company has donated books to the school at Buchinelly in the district to start a new library.

It has handed over lab equipment and furniture to the school to improve the quality of education being provided to students.

Meanwhile, used computers and library books were donated to Saraswathi Sishu Mandir in the town. Under health sector aimed at eradicating blindness, eye camps were being conducted on regular basis.

A team of doctors would visit villages, screen patients and those who need medical intervention would be referred to Shankar Netralayam at Hyderabad, with whom the company has made a tie-up to complete the job.

End-to-end service

An end-to-end service is being extended to the patients with getting them medically checked at the village, then taking them to the hospital at Hyderabad for treatment or surgical intervention, bringing them back to the village and taking post-operative care for the next three weeks.

If necessary, the patient would be referred to the concerned doctors once again.

Eradication of blindness programme was commenced in March 2010 at Yedakulapally village and so far 25 camps have been conducted covering about 60 villages and 18 tandas.

“As of now, 7,330 patients have been screened and out of them, 5,282 have been supplied with spectacles. Around 383 patients have been operated upon and all the required care has been taken for them,” Mr. K.P.N. Rao, Head, HR, told The Hindu.
