Strong bond between academic institutions and DRDO stressed
‘ETC will reduce delay in testing of products'
VISAKHAPATNAM: Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister V.K. Saraswat has inaugurated an Environmental Test Centre (ETC) set up on the premises of the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said major emphasis was being given to reorganisation of DRDO.
The proposals include merger of DRDO labs with public-funded institutions doing similar research and decentralisation of DRDO management.
The objective was to develop the immense human resource potential available at the labs and to prove that the DRDO was on par with other similar research institutes across the world.
Dr. Saraswat called upon young scientists to put in a minimum of five years of teaching- cum-research in universities or higher educational institutes to promote a strong bond between academic institutions and DRDO labs. He suggested the starting of targeted courses in this regard.
NSTL Director V. Bhujanga Rao commended ‘Padmasri' Saraswat for getting his third honorary doctorate degree in just four months from different universities in the country.
This was an indication of the great scientist, who is also the Director General of DRDO.
He said the ETC would reduce delays in the testing of products as earlier they had to be sent to Hyderabad and Bangalore.
