HYDERABAD: Admission into Ph.D and M.Phil courses in all the State universities from now onwards would be based on entrance examinations only while universities have also been banned to offer these courses through distance mode.

A decision to this effect was taken on Thursday at the meeting of A.P. State Council of Higher Education. The APSCHE Chairman, K.C. Reddy said the decision would come into effect immediately.

Similarly, evaluation of Ph.D dissertation and M.Phil thesis would have to be done by at least one examiner from outside the State before they are approved for award of degree.

Prof. Reddy said universities will not be allowed to offer Ph.D and M.Phil courses through distance mode from now onwards.

With regard to guidelines for teacher recruitment, Prof. Reddy said National Eligibility Test (NET) is must for all the teachers to be considered for recruitment. However, those who possess a Ph.D would be exempted from NET but these candidates have to gain a Ph.D as per the new UGC guidelines.
