HYDERABAD: Hundreds of engineers working in the Irrigation Department took a pledge to complete the projects taken up under Jalayagmam at the earliest in an emotional reaction while condoling the death of Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at a meeting at Jalasoudha here on Saturday.

The meeting, presided over by M. K. Rahaman and B. S. N. Reddy, both engineers-in-chief, Irrigation, noted that Jalayagnam carried the stamp of Dr. Reddy more than any other of his programmes and it was “most relevant too” as it would bring about a sea change in the State’s economy by converting over one crore acres of parched lands into lush green fields. At the Secretariat, employees took out a rally wearing black badges and observed a one-minute silence condoling the five deaths in the copter crash before a huge multi-colour picture of Dr. Reddy in front of the “C” block from where he functioned till the other day.
