Srikakulam: The Superintending Engineer, Vamsadhara Project, S.Dakshina Murthy, has asserted that the proposed barrages of Orissa Government across Mahendratanaya river would have no impact on our proposed reservoir near Meliaputti across the same river. The foundation for this reservoir was laid by the Chief Minister,Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy a few months ago.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr.Dakshina Murthy pointed out that the reservoir near Meliaputti was designed, keeping in mind the possible use of Orissa Government’s share of 4.22 tmc ft of water. The water available in the catchment area between the proposed projects in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh was 4.37 tmc ft., of this our requirement for the Meliaputti project was 1.63 tmc ft only.

Of this 0.107 tmc ft of water would be used for drinking water purposes. Our share of water in Vamsadhara was 52.5 tmc ft. Of which we use only 36.23 tmc ft of water. This included water required for Vamsadhara project also, Mr.Dakshina Murthy said.
