Prakasam District Joint Collector P Lakshmi Narasimham on Wedneday exhorted one and all to put an end to discrimination of HIV-infected persons.

“It is unfortunate that even children carrying HIV for no fault of theirs are being discriminated. This should stop'', he said while taking part in a meeting organised by Prasanthi Mahila Mandali led by social activist T Madhavi. He lauded the services of the Mandali which had adopted 50 HIV infected children and promised all support from the district administration for their activities.

Ms Madhavi, whose organisation had arranged for nutritious food for them in collaboration like-minded non-governmental organisations like ''Rema Asha'' to these children, lamented that students carrying HIV are being iscriminated by teachers more than fellow students. Those carrying HIV were also being discriminated at the workplace.

Andhra Pradesh Mahila Abhuyudhaya Seva Samiti T Aruna said even health care professionals continue to discriminate against persons carrying HIV. She pressed for Police stations to look into complaints of hapless women and their children.

The Joint Collector distributed bedsheets and sarees for 50 aged persons.
