Parents should encourage children to read story books and dissuade them from watching television and films, noted author M. Harikishan said on Sunday.

He released “Kadapa Pillolla Kathalu”, a book containing 102 short stories written by schoolchildren, in competitions organised by Jana Vignana Vedika.

Lauding JVV in a programme in C.P. Brown Library here, he said children had written about values, service to others, honesty and patriotism.

It is high time children got back to reading books like Panchatantram, Tenali Ramalinga and Maryada Ramanna’s stories, Dr. Harikishan said.

JVV district honorary president R. Chandrasekhar Reddy said 102 students were chosen for publication.
