Eluru Range DIG G. Surya Prakasa Rao on Thursday took over as in-charge Commissioner of Police from P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, who was transferred on account of allegations of sexual harassment and asked to report at the police headquarters in Hyderabad.

Mr. Anjaneyulu appearing in civil dress handed over the charge to Mr. Surya Prakasa Rao in the morning and later told reporters that his eight-month-long tenure as Commissioner of Police gave him enough satisfaction.

Describing the stint as “memorable”, he said: “I have the satisfaction of organising the Dasara festivities, Bhavani Deeksha relinquishment and traffic awareness programmes successfully with the cooperation of all the police personnel.

We could also withdraw history sheets pending against many. But the rise in the number of daylight house-breakings and chain snatchings, besides poor recovery of property, disappointed me,” he said.

Mr. Anjaneyulu wished that his successor would invite Aruna Vyas, widow of IPS officer K.S. Vyas, in whose name a new traffic control complex was coming up at A.R. Ground, to inaugurate the building. Mr. Surya Prakasa Rao said he would concentrate on Vijayawada in view of the submission of the Srikrishna Committee report.
