Cadres belonging to A.P. State Electricity Employees Union, Register No:1104, drawn from various towns of the Chittoor district took out a massive rally through the main streets of the temple city of Tirupati on Friday in support of their 18-point charter of demands.
Amidst waving of party flags and placards and banners, the employees, led by their district and local union leaders, shouted anti-government slogans and threatened to lead a much bigger rally at Tirupati with cadres from six districts coming under APSPDCL, if the government failed to respond to their demands before November 24. It would be followed by a ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ programme and a State-wide stir from December 5, if the government continued to ignore their demands.
They regretted that though the Labour Commissioner had fixed a timeline before which the government should sort out their grievances, there was ‘nil response’ from the authorities. Their demands include filling up of vacant posts with the contract workers working in the organizations as per their qualifications, sanction of additional posts as per the agreement already reached and so on.
Among leaders who led the rally were Discom secretary P. Ashok Kumar, Regional President G.R. Daivaprasad.
