A fresh notification for holding elections to the posts of sarpanch and ward members in five village panchayats – Andugulapadu (Vinukonda mandal), Erlapadu (Savalyapuram), Gogulapadu (Gurazala), Sarangapalli (Dachepalli) and Udijerla (Epuru) – has been issued by the State Election Commission in exercise of its powers conferred by the Constitution of India read with Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj (Conduct of Elections) Rules, 2006.

The rescheduling of elections in those villages has been necessitated by the finding of a prime facie case of auctioning of posts, the SEC stated in the notification issued on Wednesday.

As per the revised schedule, polling will be held in those villages on August 8 (7 a.m to 1 p.m) and counting of votes taken up on the same day from 2 p.m.

Nominations have to be filed from July 25 to 29 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is August 2 when the final list of contestants will be published. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on July 30 and appeals against rejection have to be made before 5 p.m of July 31.
