ANANTAPUR: The district police arrested eight persons here on Thursday on the charge of planning to kill a person in the Housing Board Colony. Eight country-made bombs, five hunting sickles and an autorickshaw were also seized from their possession.

Giving the details to newspersons Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar said that the then sarpanch of Mannila village in Anantapur rural mandal G. Anjaneyulu of CPI was killed by his rivals near the village on September 25, 2002. C. Rajanikath, Srinivasulu, Anandkumar and others were accused in the case and were out on bail now.

Anjaneyulu's son and his relatives hatched a plan to take revenge and accordingly started waiting for an appropriate opportunity to attack and kill Rajanikanth, living in the colony here. They had also made a couple of attempts, but could not attack. They were planning an attack again on Thursday when the police nabbed them. The arrested included Anjaneyulu's son Anand, his cousins Sudhakar, Eeswaraiah and Suman, their friends Hussain, Adinarayana, Raju Naik and Adi.
