Education is crucial for development of the country and career advancement of the future citizens. The teachers should make efforts for improving the education standards in government schools which are facing tough competition from the private sector, said District Collector S. Suresh Kumar.

Participating as the chief guest in an Orientation Training Program for Junior Lecturers of Government Aided Colleges’ Contract Faculty at the Government Junior College for Girls here on Thursday, Mr. Suresh Kumar said almost 90 per cent of students passing 10th class are joining Intermediate courses in private institutions.

Faculty of Government and aided colleges should ponder over the reasons for it and make necessary improvements in the methods of educating the children. The students should keep the need for good communication skills in mind while exploring career opportunities.

Another thing to be duly focused on is the availability of vocational courses which have excellent job potential.
