More than 79,000 applications were received so far for the Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET) 2013, which will be held all over the State on June 3, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Chairman of the EdCET Committee G.S.N. Raju said here on Thursday.

With online mode made compulsory for submitting application forms from this year, 168 applications were also received from other States, including 117 from Odisha, Prof. Raju said at a press conference he addressed along with convenor of EdCET 2013 Nimma Venkata Rao. He advised the candidates to submit their applications as soon as possible instead of waiting till the last date.

Online submission

Applications will be received till April 22 without fine and with a fine of Rs. 500 till April 30. From this year onwards the applications have to be submitted online only. The number of applications received last year was 1.53 lakh and the number is expected to be around this figure this year also since B.Ed. qualified candidates were required for 14,000 teacher posts available in the 714 model schools the government was starting from the next academic year and B.Ed. was made the necessary qualification for those joining private schools also under the Right to Education Act, Prof. Venkata Rao said.

At present the number of seats in B.Ed. available this year in the 621 colleges of education in the State is 67,000 and 50,250 of them will be filled up under convenor’s quota and the rest are under the management quota. Scholarships will be granted only to the students admitted under convenor’s quota. The total number might vary slightly before the counselling commences. To avoid mistakes the candidates can download the model application form, fill up all columns and then start filling up the online application form by keeping the model application form by the side for reference. The compulsory fields like date of birth, SSC hall ticket number, methodology, medium, etc. must be filled without fail.
