Members distribute cloth bags at Rythu Bazar

In an effort to check the use of plastic carry bags, the members of Sthambadri Rotary Club have distributed cloth bags to the consumers at Rythu Bazar here on Saturday.

The members educated the consumers on the environmental hazards posed by the indiscriminate use of non-biodegradable plastic bags at the Rythu Bazar. They also highlighted the importance of using the environment-friendly cloth bags on the occasion.

The volunteers of the club distributed about 2000 cloth bags free of cost to the consumers as part of the environmental protection campaign aimed at fighting the menace of plastic bags.

Earlier, Collector N. Nageswara Rao also participated in the campaign. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon other voluntary organisations and clubs to take up similar campaigns to dissuade people from using plastic bags.

He exhorted the women to take a lead role in the campaign to spread environmental awareness in the society.

He distributed cloth bags to the members of the women self-help groups at a programme held under the aegis of the club at Babu Jagjeevan Ram municipal community hall here.

Khammam Revenue Divisional Officer V. Venkateshwarlu, Municipal Commissioner Nagaraju, the club president Praveen Kumar and others were present.
