An independent candidate of Narsipatnam sent an appeal to the Election Commission of India, the State Election Commission and Governor of Andhra Pradesh seeking removal of ceiling fans in the polling booths, adjacent rooms and in the buildings within a radius of 100 meters of a polling booth during the municipal elections in accordance with the law that bars an election symbol to be displayed at the polling station or in the area around it.

Ceiling fan is the symbol of YSR Congress and ceiling fans in the polling booths and premises around them would give an advantage to the candidates of the party over the other candidates, the contestant and former Naxalite leader Achanta Lakshmana Rao said in his complaint. Conducting elections directly under the fans in polling booths would make the elections unlawful, illegal and invalid, Mr. Lakshmana Rao contended.
