The CPI (M) and Girijans' associations gave a call for a bandh in Dumbriguda mandal on Thursday in protest against criminal cases filed against 12 villagers, including two women, following the incident at Sarayi village when the local MPP and Araku MLA were attacked on Tuesday for allegedly colluding with the company behind the china clay mining lease holder. Criminal cases were registered at the Dumbriguda Police Station against Araku Valley ZPTC Killo Surendra, CPI (M) mandal secretary Dayanidhi, CITU secretary Ramu and others and two women of Sarayi.

Many more might be included in the cases, CPI (M) district secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao said here.

More protest programmes are being planned against china clay mining, he said.
