VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Sports Authority, responding to the instruction of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation in identifying non-performing sport associations occupying rooms in Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium complex, has short listed some associations that were “neglecting domestic activities”.

“Associations of athletics, weightlifting, basketball, judo, tennis-ball cricket, veteran athletics and physical education teachers have been identified as non-performers. They very rarely take up domestic events and hardly make efforts to popularise their respective disciplines,” said District Sports Development Officer B. Sudhakar on Tuesday.

He said the rooms at the basement of the galleries were allotted to all the associations on the basis of an assurance given by them that they would involve the youth in a big way by conducting local tournaments. “There are rival groups in some associations, while some others conduct one or two national event and remain silent afterwards. The physical education teachers association is also not conducting programmes regularly for the promotion of sports and games by organising seminars and training sessions,” he pointed out.

Mr. Sudhakar said associations of cricket, table tennis, archery, gymnastics, kabaddi, football, volleyball, carroms, netball and sepak takraw were regularly conducting events and camps for the youngsters.
