Passengers of an RTC bus get down on seeing the accident and hand over the driver to police

HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old granite businessman driving a Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) in an inebriated condition rammed into a scooter killing three members of a family at Hamdapur village in Ranga Reddy district on Monday night, police said.

The accident occurred around 11 p.m. when the businessman, identified as Hussain Budwani of Abids, was on the way to the city. He apparently lost control of the vehicle, a Chevrolet Tavera, crashed into the scooter resulting in serious injuries to Yadaiah (45), his wife Laxmi (40) and sons Srikanth (16) and Srinath (13).

While Yadaiah and Srinath died on the spot, Laxmi was declared brought dead at a nearby corporate hospital. Srikanth, however, is battling for life in the same hospital, according to police. The family members were returning home after attending a function at their relative's house in Khanapur, police said.

Inquiries by the police revealed that the businessman had a woman sitting beside him and was returning from his friend's farmhouse in Ranga Reddy district when the accident occurred. Passengers travelling in an RTC bus on the route got down after seeing the ghastly accident and handed him over to the police.

Moinabad Inspector V. Bhaskar said a case under Section 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was booked against Hussain and arrested him.
