NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor flags off rally
Everybody should come forward to donate eyes because one person can provide sight to two, Dr. N.T.R.University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor I.V. Rao said on Thursday.
The Vice-Chancellor flagged off a rally to promote eye donation organised by the Sandhya Hi-Tech and Vision Care Centre as part of the World Sight Day celebrations.
Addressing a gathering, Prof. Rao said people had several misconceptions about eye donation and youth should come forward to donate eyes and dispel the wrong notions.
He said most organs in the body become dysfunctional and useless three minutes after death, but eyes were an exception. They remain functional for six hours and they function normally if they were transplanted to another person within that period.
He lauded the centre’s head M.S. Raju, who was promoting awareness about eye donation and taking agreement letters from those who wanted to donate their eyes.
The staff of the centre campaigned about eye donation at various places in the city. All who had given their consent would be given certificates.
