NALGONDA: Give him any `charanam' from any one of the 3,000-odd songs sung by singer Ghantasala Venkateswar Rao, a practising doctor Sayed Rahamatullah is ready to list out the name of the movie, its director, music director and so on. To top it all, he is even ready to sing the full song.
Dr. Rahamatullah, who hails from Parlakimidi in Orissa, is also prepared to give any minute detail about the mellifluous singer of yesteryear.
He enthralled the audience with his stunning performance during `Astaavadhanam on Ghantasala' here on Sunday night. The venue of the programme China Venkata Reddy Function Hall was full to its capacity and it reverberated with rounds of applause, as the doctor impressed one and all.
The Medical Officer (General Medicine) at a private hospital at Narketpally, Dr. Rahamatullah had the audience spell-bound for about three hours. Joint Collector B. Sridhar, who enjoyed the spontaneity and memory power of the doctor, felicitated him. Eight prushchakas some of them eminent persons asked questions about the great singer and Dr. Rahamatullah took no time to answer all of them without any difficulty.
A multi-linguist, Dr. Rahamatullah said that his devotion to the great singer made it possible to take up the rare feat.
"It is an unique experiment in Telugu literature. Getting a firm hold on a great person's life is not an easy task but it is not an impossible one too," he said. The idea of `astaavadhanam' came into his mind after winning a prize at a quiz competition held by an organisation called `Intinti Ghantasala' on December 26, 2004 at Tyagaraya Gana Sabha. Till date he has performed avadhanams at eight places in the State including two in Hyderabad.
Asked as to how could he find time to memorise all songs and the biography of Ghantasala, he said: "I have only two worlds, one is medical practice and the other is Ghantasala."
