Minister for Health D.L. Ravindra Reddy welcomed the government’s decision to allot Bayyaram mines to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), which has no captive mine, and faulted criticism made by pro-Telangana people on regional lines.

Viewing every issue as pro-Andhra or pro-Telangana was improper, he commented in an informal chat with mediapersons in the State guest house here. He favoured setting up of a steel plant in the most backward and drought-prone district - Anantapur - as Obulapuram mines had high grade iron ore. Kadapa district was also ideal to set up a steel plant, he added. He recalled that he had participated in an agitation for the setting up of VSP.

Hoping that the party leadership would find a solution to the Telangana issue after the Parliament session, Dr. Ravindra Reddy said any decision to be taken by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the Telangana issue was acceptable to the party rank and file.
