Students of the Charla-based Rahul Vignan School celebrated the Children’s Day in a novel way by serving the needs of the inmates of the old age home situated at Yetapaka near Bhadrachalam town on Wednesday.

Bearing in mind the winter travails of the destitute old people, a group of students of the school raised funds among themselves and donated rugs to the inmates of the old age home coinciding with the Children’s Day.

The students travelled all the way from their school situated in the remote tribal pocket of Charla to Yetapaka covering a distance of nearly 54 km in their school vehicle for lending a helping hand to the elderly people. They handed over a total of 25 rugs to the inmates of the home thereby providing the latter the much needed cover to protect themselves from the spine-chilling cold wave. The students also distributed fruits and bread packets to the old people as a goodwill gesture at a programme held at the old age home at Yetapaka on Wednesday evening.

The compassionate act of the school kids earned them choicest blessings from the destitute elderly people. Speaking on the occasion, the school principal H. G. V. Prasad said the children demonstrated their concern for the elderly people by taking up the need-based charity programme to mark the celebration of the Children’s Day in a befitting manner. Bhadrachalam MLA K Satyavathi was present.
