The month that draws the attention of keen shoppers and enthusiastic retailers is ‘Aadi’ or ‘Aashadam’. As the period is considered inauspicious traditionally no new purchases were made, but today this month has become synonymous with discount sales and shoppers from traditional families go bargain hunting.

From clothes to mobile outlets, shoe stores to accessory shops and furniture showrooms, the city has come alive this July with retailers wooing the shoppers with irresistible discounts. Interestingly, every person in the family gets something to suit his or her budget without burning a hole in the pocket. With a combination of clearance sales and a range of seasonal introductions, it is raining discounts in the city. “This is the month where I look forward to shop and my parents would never say no to the smart choices I make,” says Archana Srinivas, a degree college student. “Moreover, during Aashadam sale I can stack a good quantity of branded clothes for the rest of the year as I get my kind of stuff at almost half the price,” she explains.

The discount sale at CMR extends from Aadi to Ramzan and Sravanam; Kankatala offers 50-60 per cent off on clothes; Westside charms the shoppers with its seasonal sale up to 60 per cent discount; Lucky Shopping Mall offers discount between 40 and 50 per cent; SR Shopping Mall has flat 25 to 50 per cent off on every purchase; Megamart has an end of season sale with up to 60 per cent off; Sri Vamsi’s Aadi sale promises up to 50 per cent discount; Visakhapatnam Central Mall unfurls its happy sale with 51 per cent off; One can also avail discount up to 50 per cent at outlets like Big Bazaar, Kalaniketan, Pantaloons, Twills, K-Lounge and Max. The moment you step out, one can see a number of hoardings every corner of the road and it is really difficult to make a choice as the sale is not only for fabrics but also for accessories, footwear and mobile phones, says Durga Prasad, an employee. “Now I can get HTC smart phone at a better price which I have been planning to buy for quite some time,” he says.

The four outlets of Cell Point offer a special price for Aashadam whereas Big-C extends its discount up to 51 per cent for the season. This appears to be the best season for bargain hunting.
